Flute Choir
Advanced: Theme: Classic Masterpieces

A great opportunity for flute players of all ages to play and perform in a positive, non-competitive environment, intended to complement private lessons and other learning experiences. A placement audition is required. Call the office at (603)644-4548 for audition information.

Brass Choir
Ages: All ages, including adults

Explore the unique experience of playing in an ensemble with your fellow brass players, including trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, and others. Learn to work together on intonation, active musical listening, and conversing musically with other players. We will explore the vast repertoire of the brass choir literature and have a lot of fun!

Guitar Ensemble
Ages: All ages including adults

Can you play chords on the guitar, and would like to see what it's like to play with other guitarists? This is the class for you. No music reading is necessary. We will explore music from the renaissance to classical and even jazz, through quartets, trios, and duets, as well as guitar with other instruments. This great experience will conclude with a recital.

Rock Ensemble
Ages: All ages, including adults

Time: Friday 7:00 p.m.
Length: 90 minutes/14 week session

All you need to know about playing in a band is taught here through hands-on music and experience. Guitarists, bassists, and drummers who want to play in a band but haven't done so yet are welcome in this class. Players will be grouped according to level of proficiency. We will be learning blues, classic and contemporary rock. learn rehearsal techniques, communication between band members, and how to promote the band. We'll rock out at the conclusion of the semester at the recital!

Basics of Conducting

Build essential skills in musicianship and ensemble playing. Through an introduction to score reading and ensemble leadership, students will gain an understanding of the written musical page. Baton technique from both sides of the podium will be explored! Advanced middle school students through adults will be motivated by this class.

Beginning Piano Class for Adults

When you walk by a piano do you wish that you could sit down and play a favorite tune? This class is designed for adults with little or no keyboard experience. Maximum class size is 4 and students are required to have access to a piano or keyboard at home for practice.

Adult Chorus

The adult chorus is open to all adults, regardless of experience. The chorus will explore literature from medieval, renaissance, classical, romantic, and 20th century eras. Also included will be some repertoire from popular music from the 19th and 20th centuries, some jazz, folk, and more.

Having a musical conversation with fellow players is what ensembles are all about. If you would like to participate in a duo, trio, or quartet for strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion or piano, chamber ensembles are for you. Ensemble experience is an essential element in music education, and MCMS continues to expand its Chamber Music Program in order to offer this exciting educational experience to more students of the school. Musicians will be asked to participate in placement consultation/auditions to enable the faculty to form ensembles of players at similar ability levels. Recital and performance opportunities for these ensembles will be offered. We form new chamber ensembles throughout the year, so call today!

Adult String Chamber Ensemble

Length: 2 hours/12-week session
Tuition: $250, with a 20% discount if enrolled in private lessons

For adults with one year of private study through advanced study. This class will be divided into 3 sections: beginner Ensemble, Intermediate Ensemble, and Advanced Ensemble. Students will be placed in ensembles based on consultation with the instructor. Enjoy this opportunity for adult students and amateurs to play chamber music with their peers in a professional, nurturing environment. Throughout the course, a variety of repertoire will be explored, with ample time to get to know your fellow musicians.

Jazz Workshop
A full year workshop where students develop the basic skills of the jazz language in an ensemble/class setting. Strong emphasis will be placed on ensemble playing, jazz style, articulation and improvisation. Designed to develop knowledge of jazz repertoire through performance while building essential skills.

Jazz Theory and Improvisation I
This 14-week course will focus on the construction and use of chords, scales, and modes in jazz improvisation. Study will be reinforced with relevant recordings and solo transcriptions. Prerequisite: Ability to read music

Length: 60 minutes/14 weeks
Ages: All ages, including adult
Tuition: $250 or $200 if enrolled in private lessons, jazz orchestra or jazz workshop

Jazz Theory and Improvisation II
This 14-week course will focus on the study of the Blues and begin investigating standard chord changes. Study will be reinforced with relevant recordings and solo transcriptions.
Prerequisite: Jazz Theory and Improvisation I or permission of the instructor
